From the team behind the Cornwall Youth Noise Orchestra
Moogie Wonderland is preparing to launch a new programme of paid electronic music lessons in Falmouth, for young people and adults from Penryn, Truro, Redruth and surrounding areas.
These lessons are separate from our free, funded youth projects and offer a different kind of opportunity: regular, focused learning in very small groups or one-to-one, led by experienced tutors. Lessons cover the basics, then explore what happens when systems are allowed to change.
Choose your lesson focus
We’ll be offering two types of electronic music lessons. Students choose the option that best matches their interests, with the possibility to change focus over time where availability allows. No prior experience is needed. All equipment is provided during lessons.

Modular Synth Lessons
If you’re curious about sound and want to shape music in your own way, modular synthesis offers a powerful and open-ended place to start.
These lessons use modular synthesizers — hands-on electronic instruments where sounds are built by connecting different parts together. Sessions explore core ideas such as pitch, rhythm and modulation, while also making creative use of chance, variation and exploration of unexpected results.
Modular synth lessons suit people who enjoy experimenting, figuring things out as they go, and discovering new sounds through a balance of control and unpredictability. They’re widely used across contemporary electronic and experimental music, and reward curiosity rather than following fixed rules or presets.

Drum Machine & Sampler Lessons
If you’re drawn to beats, rhythm and repetition, drum machines and samplers offer a direct and expressive way to make electronic music.
These lessons focus on programming patterns, shaping grooves and working creatively with recorded sounds. Sessions cover core rhythmic ideas such as timing, structure and repetition, while also exploring ways to introduce variation, randomness and surprise into beats and textures.
Drum machine and sampler lessons suit people who enjoy working with patterns but also like bending the rules, letting systems evolve, and finding interest in small changes over time. They’re central to many forms of electronic music and performance.
Who are these lessons for?
These lessons are designed for people who want time, focus and continuity in learning electronic music.
They’re suitable for:
• Young people (12+) who want regular lessons and time to develop their own ideas
• Adults who want to explore electronic music in a supported, creative setting
• People curious about sound, systems and hands-on music-making
• Families looking for a calm, focused alternative to larger group activities
No prior experience is needed, and students don’t need to arrive with a clear musical background or goals. Lessons are shaped around curiosity, listening and exploration.
How is this different from your free projects?
Our free programmes (such as the Cornwall Youth Noise Orchestra) are youth-only, group-based, time-limited and dependent on external funding.
Our paid lessons offer ongoing sessions, small groups or one-to-one learning, access for adults as well as young people, and time to focus on individual musical interests and development.
For many families, paid lessons are the most direct way to access consistent, personalised learning, and we our lessons are designed to be affordable.
Our free, funded youth projects will continue to run separately, when funding allows.

A supportive learning environment
Lessons take place in a calm, supportive setting, with small groups or one-to-one sessions where students can learn at their own pace.
They are often a good fit for people who prefer a quieter way of learning, experience some social anxiety, or feel more comfortable working in focused, low-pressure environments.
Tutors are DBS checked, safeguarding trained, and experienced in working with young people and adults through schools, home education settings and creative projects. We’re always happy to discuss individual needs in advance to help determine whether these lessons are a good fit.
Lessons are not a specialist or therapeutic service.
Sound, systems and real-world skills
Electronic music tools like modular synths, drum machines and samplers are built around the same core ideas used across modern technology: shaping signals, controlling systems, and understanding how small changes affect complex outcomes.
At Moogie Wonderland, we’ve developed a distinctive approach that deliberately aligns techniques used in electronic instruments with those found in real-world engineering and signal-based systems. This way of working has grown out of our creative and educational practice over time, rather than being adapted from existing teaching models.
In these lessons, students explore these ideas hands-on through sound rather than theory — listening, adjusting, experimenting and discovering how systems behave in real time. The same kinds of processes appear in fields such as space and satellite systems, data-driven technologies, marine engineering and other signal-led industries, but here they’re encountered through making music.
This approach was developed through Moogie Wonderland’s ongoing work and first articulated here in 2025.
Tutors & approach
Lessons are led by experienced tutors who are established, practising musicians, offering a rare opportunity to learn directly from people who actively use modular synths, drum machines and sampling in their own creative work.
Moogie Wonderland’s work through the Cornwall Youth Noise Orchestra has been featured by The Guardian, BBC Radio 3, BBC 6 Music, Uncut and Electronic Sound, reflecting a long-standing commitment to creative, exploratory electronic music-making developed through that project.
This experience informs the approach taken in our lessons, which focus on making real music, developing confidence with the tools, and finding an individual way of working — rather than exams, grades or formal notation.
Equipment & learning at home
All instruments are provided during lessons.
We also use virtual modular software (compatible with Windows and macOS), allowing students to continue working at home without needing to buy hardware straight away. Laptops are provided during lessons, with the option to bring a Windows or macOS laptop if preferred.
Location
Lessons will take place in Falmouth, and are suitable for students travelling from Penryn, Truro, Redruth and nearby areas. We will soon be confirming the venue.
